SUPER! at the GLCC.

Pittsburgh, PA June 2, 2013- Exploring the homoerotic subtext of the superhero culture at the Pittsburgh GLCC.

The GLCC is showcasing the artwork of local and international artists in the comic book genre. If you grew up with comics and graphic novels, you may have noticed: The incredible bodies in flamboyant and skin-tight outfits. The leading of double lives. The intense male/ male relationships. The strange, unusual and even “unnatural” powers. Maybe it was the lack of positive gay role models in the mainstream culture or maybe all superheroes ARE kinda gay.
Things have progressed a bit from Northstar to Batwoman to a gay wedding in Archie. This show is meant to explore and celebrate all the hints, the winks & nods and the glorious camp that occurred over time.
Show opens Sunday, June 2nd 6-9pm. Free admission, Free drinks & snacks, Free parking downtown. Wear a cape.

Exhibition runs from: Sunday June 2nd to Sept. 25th.

Pittsburgh Gay & Lesbian Community Center provides the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender (GLBT) individuals, their families and supporters in Western Pennsylvania with resources and opportunities to promote visibility, understanding and equality within the LGBT communities and the community-at-large. Got Drawn, now what?

So tonight is end of the Get Drawn show at Stuff n Such Society.

Sunday. The GLCC will be hosting another art show for an up and coming artist of the LGBTQ community, Torey Bocast. She will be exhibiting 2 themes abstract compositions and photos from a trip to Israel. Come check it out 6-9pm downtown.

Appreciation Post

ART AND DRAG UNITE FOR A ROYAL SHOW

Pittsburgh, PA Dec. 2, 2012- Drag Queens and Kings as Portrayed by Local Pittsburgh Artists.

The GLCC proudly presents a collaborative effort between the visual art community and the drag performance community. “Drag” can be understood gender bending or gender illusion entertainment that has the power to question, to liberate, and to push boundaries, much like the power of art. Art and drag are both concerned with aesthetics and transformation. Visual artists and drag performers operate on the fringe of society, giving them a unique perspective to explore their creativity and expression. Pittsburgh is lucky to have such a rich and talented drag community as well as a talented and rich art community. In this show, Drag Queens and Kings have collaborated with visual artists to create “royal” portraiture.

Most of the artists and drag performers are from Pittsburgh with a few imports from Cleveland, Philadelphia, and Erie. Proceeds from the sales will benefit the artist, the performer, and the GLCC itself. Everyone is encouraged to attend the opening in drag.

Exhibition runs from: Sunday December 2^nd to January 27^th.

The opening is free and open to everyone. Refreshments will be served.

3 Day Weekend of Art.

Busy, busy, busy.

Friday Oct 5th. during Unblurred.
I will have a new piece in the Rustbelt Rivalry show.

This is part two of the art & culture exchange Most Wanted Fine Art has with the guys in Cleveland. Back in July I traveled with the Most wanted crew to the Waterloo Arts Festival and competed with Cleveland artists for fame & glory. Now they come here. More info can be found at the website.

What will I be showing?

Saturday I will be back at Most Wanted Fine Art to paint live for the first ever Car Art show in Pittsburgh.
I'll be teaming up with Eric Luden to paint Rockstar Jeff's van. It's competitive with prizes, and I think we have a good chance of winning.

Then last, but not least, Sunday.

I put together a show for the GLCC. International emerging artists (who all showed at Most Wanted, btw...) will be gracing the walls of the Community Center. Leah Bevilacqua was originally scheduled to take part in this show, but she fell ill and had to withdraw. Let's all hope she gets better and back on her feet soon. The opening is 6-9pm. Just after the football game. Street parking is free. Food and drink will be served. So come down and check this out.

Calling all Drag Performers and Visual Artists: Royal Portraits

Drag royalty, team up with your favorite artist and photographers for a portrait sitting. Artists, ask your favorite drag performer to model for your next masterpiece. Be part of Pittsburgh’s finest in “The Royal Portrait Exhibition” this December.

All 2D mediums accepted. The show is scheduled to open Sunday Dec 2^nd and will run till the end of January 2013. Sales should be divided so that 1/3 of the price goes to the artist, 1/3 to the Drag performer , and the final 1/3 donated to the GLCC. Deadline for submission is November 30^th.

To get involved, please contact Sam Thorp: samthor@hotmail.com. Performers and artists are welcome to match themselves up, or contact Sam Thorp at the email above for assistance in finding a collaborator. We would love to see as many performers and artists represented.
