Who's More Important?

Rembrandt, or the people who bought his work?

VanGogh or the rich idiots who failed to buy his work?

Integrity

An Artist who has a lot of integrity about their work is one to be watched, rather than one intent in making a reputation overnight.

Part of the National Queer Arts Festival

I'll be displaying several works of art and giving out free stickers, thanks to the Queer Cultural Center.

Each year, QCC organizes a large-scale month-long exhibition of cutting-edge queer art at SomArts Cultural Center Gallery in San Francisco that serves as the National Queer Arts Festival’s kick-off event. This annual exhibition is the largest and oldest forum for queer visual art in the U.S. For the past 17 years, the exhibition has featured 30 to 60 emerging and mid-career Queer artists’ work. These works are documented on QCC website, which provides a visual history of queer art making in the U.S. and provides curators and activists with a valuable resource for contemporary queer visual culture.

The exhibition will explore the idea of physical, social, political, affective and historical connections. For those who have been denied acceptance into existing social models and access to traditional political means, or for those who voluntarily reject these structures, queers have created alternative social connections as sites of political transformation or contestation.

Historically, LGBTQ people have made connections with each other across racial, geographic, gender, ability, age, class and cultural borders. These connections have built a strong LGBT community, generated new concepts of queer families, developed innovative health and social service models and made long lasting alliances with other disenfranchised communities and social change movements – interweaving social justice issues into our daily lives.

For the past 40 years LGBT people have constantly forged new ways to connect within and outside of our perceived communities: body-building magazines, lesbian pulp fiction, want ads in straight publications and other 1960s practices gave way to gay newspapers, bars, sex clubs, churches and political organizations in the 1970s. In the 1990s the increasing use of digital technology proliferated the ways LGBT people could communicate and connect. With this rise of technology, we are called upon to respond to a new and increasingly rapid proliferation of political and visual culture and an array of urgent social issues that this technology makes increasingly visible.

The True Artist (from Alan Bamberger)

The true artist- real artists whose sole mission is to create and disseminate art, regardless of outcome. - No clawing for fame and fortune, no playing the gallery game, no calculated agendas, no working the crowds, no kiss- ass, no investment in critical opinion, no impenetrable cabals or elitist cliques, just plain adherence to their principles and dedicating their lives to making art.

12x12 Rewind coming in Feburary

A group exhibition of 12"x12" works by local and regional artists featuring:

In December of 2009 at Fast Forward gallery the first 12x12 show brought together a group of young artists who for the most part were just starting out in their art careers. That show was an introduction to the emerging and vibrant art scene in Pittsburgh at that time and now it's time for round two. 12x12 Rewind, curated by Craig Freeman and Ron Copeland, is an homage to the show that originally brought us together and at the same time will be an introduction to a whole new group of prolific and skilled artists living and working in present day Pittsburgh.

Friday, Feb 6 7-10pm during Unblurred.

Exhibition runs from: Friday December 5th to December 28th, 2014.
Opening Reception: Friday 5th of September 7pm- to 10pm

Caldwell Linker has worked in photography for over 15 years and has produced a large body of work depicting LGBQT individuals and events. Sam Thorp is traditionally trained in drawing and anatomy. Sam's studio is located near Pittsburgh, and has had numerous exhibitions in Pittsburgh and has sold artwork the world over.

The Gallery:

Scenes from The Dirtiest Show in Town.

The place was packed. The crowds arrived before the event started. At the peak it was impossible to move. Clearly, there is an audience for adult, sophisticated Erotic art.
Trundle Manor was an excellent host as usual. But maybe it's time to look for a bigger venue. Include more artists....?

Making at the Makers.

Traveled with the Most Wanted Fine Art crew up to Queens NYC for the Maker Faire event.
By supplying the Life Size Mouse Trap event with an Art Car to smash, we got to paint live in front of the public.

I painted live almost all day Saturday and most of Sunday before it began to rain. Got a lot of attention, and a sale.
It was interesting. We weren't the only PGH crew up there.
I was impressed by many of the other exhibits especially the 3D printing.

I got a 3D doodle pen while I was there. I'm practicing with it now. Hopefully i'll have some artistic results.

Overheard: Gallery Owner

"The twenty-somethings who insist on putting thousand plus price tags on student grade work because they are so favored and desirable,  socially.
Yet, all I see is they become totally moody and stand in line for free drinks like jerks over and over again; collecting some number from some dope and pretending he's a big art collector dude.
It's annoying, but if they are extremely promising and talented;  what I do is drag them along."
