Off Balance


Things can't always be in balance. Balance implies a certain amount of stability, and also lack of movement. Instead, life swings from one extreme to another. The back and forth movement can propel you to keep trying, stay fresh, and move forward.
Last month was a bit tough. Trying to dig deeper on to the psyche or art’s sake  was emotionally challenging. So this month I lightened up and went with superficial pleasure…. Tits & Ass.
Here’s 2 new pieces from the showing last night.
It was fun, it blows off some steam, it shows off one of many sides, and  it has its place in the grand portfolio.

Report from the Zine Fest

The talent was assembled, edited, printed and put on display.
And I must say things went better than expected.
The new venue at CMU was an improvement. AIR is a cool studio space, but CMU just had more room.
We sold a few. Not quite enough to make back my printing costs, but  any money is good.
Got a lot of good feedback. And I met some other great artists.

I scream, you scream...

So I'm guilty of fan art as much as any artist. Maybe more so.
I troll .. i  mean surf... looking for something to draw.
Things/ people/ images catch my eye and inspire me for many reasons.

The best part of fan art... is meeting the person , giving them the drawing, and seeing the look on their face .. at what you created in their honor.

And that is why I am abso- fucking -lutley kicking myself that I forgot to bring the drawing I made of Cindy Wonderful to the Scream Club show.
It's not often Scream Club comes to Pittsburgh.
It's not often that will pay to see a live act.
Man, I may have blown a rare chance.
But here it is...too little, too late.

NEW ART FROM ALL OVER AT THE GLCC

Pittsburgh, PA Oct. 7, 2010- A world of talent and style brought to you by the GLCC.

The Pittsburgh Gay and Lesbian Community Center is showcasing some amazing emerging talent this month on its walls in the continued effort to support and bringing the LGBT community, Fine Art community together with the community at large.


Leah Bevilacqua is a local emerging artist and has an MFA from Duquesne University.
Leah utilizes mixed media, digital manipulation with photography. The process involves removing figures from their original context by appropriating the image to emphasize ambiguity and subtleties. The intent is to challenge family systems and contest the status quo.

Jon Howe lives in Brighton, United Kingdom and has an MFA from the University of Washington, Seattle.
Using the repetition of carbon paper and referencing the visual syntax of a graphic novel, Jon attempts to form a new meaning for these drawings, comprised of archived imagery.  Providing an accessible context for emotionally disruptive and confrontational images, they become part of a contrived fantasy or an iconographical enlargement embodying the circumstances of an unspecified encounter or a fictional biographical narrative.
Jon's work is based upon a view of the world, framed by own behavior, activities and their cultural dimensions - especially seen through the lens of human vulnerability, identity and other dilemmas of the individual.

Gemma Allan is from Inverness Scotland, UK.
Gemma creates geometrically abstract compositions using a rhythm of color and shape. The canvas swirls with cells that evoke deep feelings and a contemplative mood. The circle is most universal and primal of forms. The circle is spiritual illustrating wholeness, truth and perfection. It is limitless without beginning or end it is pure spirit. The multitude of circles work together in harmony. The image becomes a living organism, a symphony that expresses inner life; the process of healing and growing.

Battlefield Saints ride again!



Guess who is returning to the  Pittsburgh Zine Fair in September?

This issue will contain the amazing talent of: Anna Bender, Brian Gonnela, Masha Fikhman, Shawn Atkins, Steph Sciullio, John Barham, Mia Donna, Lauren Toohey, Gemma Allan, & Sam Thorp. Come check it out, along with many other great artists and vendors.

The 2012 Pittsburgh Zine Fair is set to take place on CMU Campus, University Center Building, Wiegand Gymnasium on September 22nd from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.

This the 2nd annual zine fair in the city and exhibits work from local and regional zine-makers in addition to providing activities like unique workshops, demonstrations and thought-provoking panel discussions; Overall the zine fair strives to foster an environment to engage independent artists and writers in an experience that encourages personal expression along with gaining valuable knowledge of our community.

This event is FREE to the public and will feature entertainment from local DJs, access to vast collections of zines from local organizations and lots of fun people!
