notes: work to enlightenment

The figure in and of itself, has been exhausted as a subject, and that to make it pertinent to psychology of today,  it has to be manipulated in some way.

The paradox of self- expression:
Express yourself more powerfully when you put aside thinking of yourself and simply concentrate on the problem.

Get rid of the space between the head and the hand.

The eye always knows more than it sees, this knowledge can heighten the artist's powers of perception to a point the can be more vividly communicated.

Anatomical knowldge must be assimilated and subordinated to an idea. No one actually wants, "realism", the figure  must be manipulated in some way.

Art making as a process of attaining "truth"
Truth is a process of attaining the nattanable truth, Truth is only a relic of precnceptions proven by a set of obvservations that requires faith on basic axioms.
(axioms= A statement or proposition that is regarded as being established, accepted, or self-evidently true.)

Reason forms the starting point, alike in the works of art and in works of nature.

Universities should be safe havens where ruthless examination of realities will not be distorted by the aim to please or inhibited by the risk displeasure.

"Everyone has talent. What is rare is the courage to follow the talent to the dark place where it leads." ~ Jung

Art reaches its greatest peak when devoid of self- consciousness. Freedom discovers man at the moment he loses concern over what impression he is making or about make.

The aim of art is to project on innervision into the world, to state in aesthetic creation  the deepest psychic and personal experiences  of a human being.

art reveals itself in psychic unerstanding of the inner essence of things and gives form to the relation of a man with nothing, with the nature of the absolute.

Art is an expression of life that transcends both time and space.

We must employ our souls through art to give a new form and a new meaning o nature or the world.

Art is never decoration or embellishment. Instead it is a work of enlightenment.
Art is a technique for acquiring liberty.

"All art comes from terrific failures and terrific needs that we al have. It's about difficulty being a self because one is neglected." ~ Luois Burgeous

Pittsburgh, PA Dec. 2, 2012- Drag Queens and Kings as Portrayed by Local Pittsburgh Artists.

The GLCC proudly presents a collaborative effort between the visual art community and the drag performance community. “Drag” can be understood gender bending or gender illusion entertainment that has the power to question, to liberate, and to push boundaries, much like the power of art.  Art and drag are both concerned with aesthetics and transformation. Visual artists and drag performers operate on the fringe of society, giving them a unique perspective to explore their creativity and expression. Pittsburgh is lucky to have such a rich and talented drag community as well as a talented and rich art community. In this show, Drag Queens and Kings have collaborated with visual artists to create “royal” portraiture.

Most of the artists and drag performers are from Pittsburgh with a few imports from Cleveland, Philadelphia, and Erie. Proceeds from the sales will benefit the artist, the performer, and the GLCC itself. Everyone is encouraged to attend the opening in drag.

Exhibition runs from: Sunday December 2nd   to January 27th.
Gallery Opening: Sunday December 2nd   6- to 9pm
The opening is free and open to everyone.  Refreshments will be served.

right now

If you are waiting for anything in order to live and love without holding back, then you suffer. Every moment is the most important moment of your life. No future time is better than now to let down your guard and love.

Art makes a great gift.

Portrait Natalie, a photo by samth0r on Flickr.

I like drawing portraits. Other people like looking at them. Therefore: Get me to draw you or someone you know and give it as a gift. Keep it as a gift to yourself. a basic drawing (color graphite on 8.5x11" paper) is cheaper than a studio portrait. It's original because i don't just copy photos, I make something out of them. Want one? Email me to get started.

success (however you define it)

It's not going to happen with one show.
It's the little day- to day stuff that advance your skill and career.
Right now, where you are, with what you got.
Make art.
get it out there... physically and/or electronically.
listen to what people say.
get a sense of who likes your art and why.
this is how you learn to sell it.
show it, sell it whenever, wherever you get the chance.
Meet people.
Make connections.
Those connections will make connections that can do more for you.

response to a comment received.

"I haven't been drawing lately, due to depression. I just don't feel creative."

My suggestion is to keep drawing anyway. If you don't feel "creative" draw un-creatively. Draw the most boring mundane thing you can think of. Just draw what is in front of you. Draw circles. The act of drawing can become a meditation. In a meditative state, healing is possible, blocks can be removed, and demons can be defeated.
Don't worry about the result. No one ever has to see the result. But the act, the act of drawing has amazing possibilities.
Fall in love with the process, results will take care of itself.
Make the art,  and the art will make you.
