TRUNDLE MANOR GETS PROPERLY FILTHY IN JULY
Swissvale,
PA. July 11th,
2014- Art
appreciation for the dirty minded with Mia Donna and Sam Thorp
FINALLY!
A display of shocking, salacious, wicked, wanton and blasphemous
artwork in the Steel City! There is no holding back. Artwork that
would have been censored in the more “respectable” galleries will
now be available for the discerning and consenting adult. Fetish
photographer Mia Donna and figure specialist Sam Thorp go “all out”
in applying their craft to the darker and more intimate & carnal
areas of the human psyche.
And
before the timid and judgmental of you cry “Pornography!” please
keep in mind that true porn does not take the time and effort to
apply the universal principles design and composition. This is art.
Art of a more challenging and adult nature. There is a difference.
But feel free to protest outside anyway. It's a free country.
Opening
night is Friday July 11th
6pm to 2am. Refreshments will include Absinthe and candy sushi.
Additional entertainment will be provided by a rope suspension demo
and belly dancing by Shrimp Scanty. Obviously, this event is 21+ up
only. Be prepared to show ID.
Mia
Donna
is a professional freelance photographer in Pittsburgh. Mia has had
many eclectic showings of her work at a variety of galleries, and was
awarded the first place Attendee's Choice winner for the Spring 2011
Naked in Pittsburgh Show.
Sam
Thorp
is traditionally trained in drawing and anatomy. Sam's studio is
located near Pittsburgh, and has had numerous exhibitions in
Pittsburgh and has sold artwork the world over.
Trundle
Manor
is
Pittsburgh's favorite tourist trap based on the eternal need to show
off the weird and unusual. As one Yelp reviewer eloquently put it,
“This
place is MIND BLOWING!” Located
in the hilly region of Swissvale, Trundle manor is open for tours by
appointment.

Painting Live at PERSAD
What the hell is PERSAD?
PERSAD offers health services, counseling, eductaion and advocacy for the LGBTQ commmunity, anyone affected with HIV?AIDS and thier family members.
I have been donating art for the art auction since 2008, before that I volunteered for several PERSAD fundraising events.
This year I will be painting LIVE with Lauren Toohey on the spot during the Underwriter's Circle Party. The resulting masterpiece will be up for auction in May for the big fundraiser, Art for Change.
The Underwriters Circle Party, a.ka. the VIP event, will be held on
Thursday, April 11 at Jay Verno Studios on the South Side.
This year's Art for Change event will be held on Monday, May 13 at the August Wilson Center for African American Culture.
Persad's largest and most successful fund raising event will be celebrating the 25th year of Art for AIDS, which has raised over $3.75 million dollars to support Persad's Free Care Fund; allowing Persad to offer quality services to all clients regardless of their ability to pay.
Live painting is quite a draw nowadays. It's most exciting when the artist has a flow, a master of gesture, a rhythm. It's not just the resulting work. (although it certiainly helps if its good.) But the action of making art. NOt only the record of the artist's actions. But witnessing the actions itself. This. Is. Action. Painting.
And I can do this. I can do this quite well. I can hold my own against anyone. The past has proven that Lauren and I can make some great work together.
You are going to want to see this.
You can get tickets to the event
here.
If you can make it, but want to chip in to PERSAD, you can donate at their website
here.

New Show
A collection of work inspired by current events and the multitude of issues that have reached a boiling point world wide. Handmade Book art by Joan Iverson Goswell and paintings by Sam Thorp
Gallery Opening: Friday March 2 5:30pm- to 8:30pm.
Check it out before Unblurred.

Sam Thorp has created a series of paintings inspired by current events and the multitude of issues that have reached a boiling point world wide.
Perhaps, this is a good time to re- examine many traditional beliefs; everything from freedom and equality, to what constitutes a “human right”, all the way down to standards of beauty and even gender roles. What ideas do we hold onto? What ideas do we change or modify for the better? Should these principles and beliefs be more inclusive or exclusive?
The style of these acrylic paintings are influenced by comic books, graphic design and pop art applied to classical figurative anatomy. The situations are presented in the body language of the human figure. Individual likeness and specific details are minimized to make it more open ended to the viewer. Many works provoke the viewer into making assumptions. As the viewer fills in the blanks they can then examine their own responses.

Donnie's Psychobabble at the GLCC
I've been organizing some show for the GLCC.
It has it's challenges but it think it benefits both the art community and the GLCC.
next show is the work of Donnie Toomer.
http://www.facebook.com/events/316054185101187/
Donnie will focus on world perspectives, coping mechanisms & our self- generated realities. The desire to be wanted and accepted is an inherent part of human consciousness, but how does one shape themselves if they only encounter negativity? The work will be a culmination of Donnie's own exploring, self- depreciation and coping.
Light refreshements served.
Show runs to March 24th.

WHIMSICAL AMALGAMATIONS THROUGH THE RED DOOR IN JANUARY
Southside, Pittsburgh, PA – Jan 6, 2012 – Fantastical show of animal creations by Lauren Toohey & Masha Fikhman
Announcing new work at the Red Door Gallery by Lauren Toohey & Masha Fikhman inspired by a love of merging unrelated animals and objects into one fantastical and (most likely) absurd image. The subject matter was created by brainstorming techniques. Odd phrases that emerged from this process resulted into many paintings and drawings that will be featured in this show, including such favorites as “Day of the Dead Owl,” “Cupcake Cannibalism” and “Evil Chimpanzee in a Bag.”
Lauren Toohey has been establishing herself in the local art scene as a model, crafter, curator and painter. She creates richly colored images that reflect out animal instinct. More of her work can be seen here: http://laurentoohey.com/
Masha Fikhman is emerging artist who also draws subject matter from nature and animals. The jarring subjects are made more disturbing with her use of intense color schemes. See more of her work here: http://mashafikhman.com/
Exhibition opens Friday Jan 6th 2012 6pm to 11pm with light refreshments.
Show runs till Jan 27th
Red Door Gallery is an elegant artists space run by Mahala McWilliams on the Southside that features exhibitions, workshops and performances.

the 60/40 show
Back in February I was given a flyer for this event. They were raising money for BikePGH. The challenge for me was making a painting with a bike theme. I went the naughty/ pinup route. And I was fortunate enough to sell. Thanks to the buyer.

Uploaded with
ImageShack.usBut seriously... BikePGH is a worthy cause. This city needs more bike lanes and more bikers. For some reason the trolls argue that riding a bike somehow REDUCES our standard of living.... cause you know exercising more, spending less money and contributing less pollution TOTALLY equals a lower standard of living.....

It's Thursday!
But not just any Thursday... it's also Cinco de Mayo as well. And you know what THAT means... a reason to drink.
Yes, we will appropriate any holiday if we can get sloshed.
But before play time, i must take care of business.
I'm dropping off my painting for the Tsunami Victims fundraiser.
Then off to Panza's for a figure drawing session. (maybe the model will wear a sombrero)
The probably 80's night at Belvedere's for cheap alcohol and bad dancing. Ole'!
Friday the art begins.
The Looking Glass Project will have a preview show at the Art Institute in the morning. Then Friday Evening it's Unblurred on Penn Ave. I'm not showing anything, but I'll be out supporting the scene. Personally I look forward to Cory Bonnet at Most Wanted Fine art.
http://most-wantedfineart.com/
And Modern Formation's Smitten should be a good show.
http://modernformations.com/
Saturday I have several art happenings:
First is the much anticipated Looking Glass Show at Artform. I'll be showing along side many local and international artists. Including Boris Vallejo.... yeah..... you heard me. Boris f'n Vajello is in this show. Don't ask how or why.... just go see it. The opening is 2pm to 11pm so you have plenty of time to fit it into your schedule.
http://www.artformtattoo.com
Then the opening of Fleeting Pages. This is important because its local people taking back over sized stores and showcasing their own local talent. You will be able to find my book on figure drawing, and handmade work by many other local artists and writers. This could be gold mine of talent. Definitely check it out.
http://www.fleetingpages.com/
Panza Gallery is having an opening for Patrick Lee, a very talented painter. It should be very impressive.
And lastly the Tsunami Victims fundraiser I mentioned earlier.
Cattivo is hosting Sinferno tonight, which is hosting Elsie's Playground, which is hosting an art raffle/ clothing drive for the victims in Japan.
Inception references aside this should be a fun, freaky night. And if you come (preferably dressed as an Anime character) you can win a painting by me. Plus sushi, saki, dj's, burlesque, dancing and a real wild time.

Sunday is of course Mother's Day. So I'll be doing whatever she wants to do.. no matter how hungover I am. Hope you do the same.
