Get Drawn at Stuff n Such Society

Pittsburgh, PA Jan. 4, 2013- Have your portrait done for a charitable cause.

Stuff n Such Society, the underground hotspot for memorabilia, kicks off the new year with an event worth remembering. There will be a whole new stock of pop culture collectables available for buy and trade.

New art will be on display from International artists Sylvia K. and Sarina Meester.

Local artist Sam Thorp will be drawing live and on the spot to benefit the Pittsburgh Women and Girls Foundation. The suggested donation for a 9x12” sketch is $10. but a little more or less won't hurt.

Event takes place: Friday the 4^th of January 6pm- to 11pm

Free Admission.

The Artists:

Sylvia K is a citizen of Italy, France & USA. Her drawings have amazing wit and charm. Samples can be seen here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/sylviakart

Sarina Meester is from the Netherlands and works professionally as a designer for major companies, but she still makes time to create art dedicated to her love for music.

The Charity:

The mission of the Women and Girls Foundation (WGF) is to achieve equality for women and girls, now and for generations to come. Our vision is for women and girls in Pennsylvania to have equal access, opportunity, and influence in all aspects of their public and private lives. To realize this vision, the organization’s active work is focused on developing the female leaders of tomorrow and advancing women’s rights today through advocacy, coalition building, and grantmaking.

The Space:

Stuff – Such Society is part retail store specializing in memorabilia of years gone by and part gallery/event space focused on the Art and Community of Collectible Culture. In addition to toys and action figures are thousands of old magazines, comic books, records and other relics rescued from the refuse bin.

discipline

So it just occurred to me that i have done roughly 750 drawings for ebay this year.
Just ebay.
That does not include all the other prep sketches, figure drawing sessions, portraits and anything else.
that no matter what else was going on... no matter how great or horrible it was... I sat down and did the drawings.
Seven hundred and fifty times.

Can i be broken?
Hell no.

Kids these days....

think they deserve a museum show right out the gate.
NO matter how much god-given talent, or fancy-ass degree you may have, you have to do your time in the shithouses, the coffee shops, and the dives to earn your way to the "big time".
You need to practice or the "big time". These "little shows" give you the chance to hone your skill, and test your mettle.
To learn how to make art on a schedule, to hang a show, to promote yourself, to price yourself, to build a following, and interact with the crowd.
It gives you experience. The one thing you don't have.
So when that big time comes... you will truly be ready.
Because you have paid your dues and did your time.
So shut up and make some art.

Get better, soon.

I'm not about rest on any laurels or be staisfied. There's always room for improvement. Demand more. Shoulder more responsibility. Dig a little deeper in to the subconscious. Be a little more honest.
Even if it hurts.
Especially if it hurts.
Something I learned from all those years of sports. Pain is the investment for something better. Pain is involved in most transformations. When pain is involved, it's not work.... it's love.

Appreciation Post

THANK YOU x100 to everyone who came who came out to the Royal Portrait opening.
I appreciate everyone who pulled together and helped out to make it a success.
Thank you to those who bought art. We managed to raise a few bucks for the GLCC.
