How is it “cool” & “hot” mean the same thing?

I started early in the gallery crawl, trying to beat the crowds. And to hand out flyers for my next show.
I began at the PCA with the SALIGIA show. Now I paid $35 to become a member and $25 entry fee. And then they have the nerve to ask $5 to see the show. PFFFFFFTTTTT.
(How about trying to SELL the work instead of gouging the artists?)
The show was juried by Mendelson. Mendelson juries a lot of show. He’s supposedly THE big shot art dealer in PGH (with another gallery in France.) So I looked at this show to see if I could figure out why he chose these pieces.

The PCA also had these quilts made by Tina Williams Brewer. The quilts depicted a lot of social injustices and the history of African Americans. Thought provoking. Apparently Tina Williams Brewer is up for a life time achievement award.

Then I hit Ellsworth Ave. in Shadyside.
Gallerie Chiz featured Tom Ladousa with ceramic wall hangings based on the curled bark that comes off the Birch trees. Abstract but beautiful. Too bad it was out of my price range.
The Mendelson gallery. I know the one artist Shawn Watrous. He did the abstract “flowery” paintings.
Bella d’Art had these lovely little pastel pieces. And I spotted two mixed media works of these gorgeous New Zeland skylines. The owner took the time to explain them to me. I really should have wrote down the names.
But that’s the thing about the Shady Side galleries. They have gallery attendants that will talk to you.

Then off to Penn Ave. Garfield, and a whole different ball game.
A former class mate of mine, Gene Fenton was showing his monsters and women photos, “Scream Queens,” at MW. It had its charm. As does Gene, I suppose. I like his monsters.
Susan C. & Christiane D. were showing work at ARTica. Susan took the time to show me how to do Silver point. And if that wasn’t cool enough, they were giving away free Red Bull. That may have been a bit of a mistake though, I couldn’t fall asleep till 4am.

Dear Garfield artworks,
Seriously, why do you hang the artwork so F’n high? And it’s so badly spaced? Why?

I followed Penn Ave into East Liberty and caught some music at the Kelly- strayhorn theater. Bekezella works there and she agreed to model for my new project (that’s 2 so far)

Then I … I realized its probly best I do this gallery crawl alone. Who in there right mind would put up with me driving all over PGH like this?

And ended up at Zombo gallery showing “Kill taupe”. This was probly my favorite. I bought a small painted of his. Just awesome. And Mr. Zombo gave me a bowling pin to paint and bring back in May. Sounds like a challenge. What would I paint on a bowling pin? Woo- hoo.
