For the 2012 Pride events the GLCC wants to showcase the wealth of Fine art talent from our LGBTQ community as well as our many Allies.
The show is open to artist who identify as: Lesbians, Gays, Bisexual, Trans people, the Queer Community and all Allies living in Western Pennsylvania.

Artist can submit one piece to hang on the wall for show and sale.

The show will run June 3rd to July 28th. With an opening Sunday June 3rd. 6-9pm.

Deadline for submission is May 21.
Bring your work with tags to the GLCC on May 21 between 5-8pm.

I've been organizing shows for the the Pittsburgh GLCC.
The goal is to showcase some great talent from the local LGBTQA Community and bring people to the GLCC.
The next show is in April.

Expanding Dreams at the GLCC

Pittsburgh, PA April 1, 2012- Anna Bender & the Queer Arts Collective showcased at the Pittsburgh GLCC.

Experimental Photography and visual stories by local arts will be on display at the Gay and Lesbian Community Center of Pittsburgh. Expanding Dreams reflect a recent arrival at a new aesthetic realm of texture, play, and discovery of self. “Queer” is an umbrella term for the unconventional or non- mainstream. Once considered very derogatory, younger generations have re-appropriated the word to identify a more outsider lifestyle in politics and philosophy as well as sexuality. This will be the first ever public showing of Anna Bender and the Queer Arts Collective.


Exhibition runs from: Sunday April 1st to May 24
Gallery Opening: Sunday April 1st 6pm- to 9pm

Anna Bender is a freelance photographer and graphic designer with a strong love for animals and Belly dancing. Anna knew her purpose from an early age: to observe the world, capture the beauty she sees, and share the vision with others. Originally from Ohio she now resides and works in Pittsburgh after earning a BFA at Syracuse University in the School of Art & Design.

The Queer Arts Collective is open to everyone Queer, artistic, verbally creative, and/or supportive and just like to be around creativity in a no-pressure fun environment. The contribution of each member is the visual evidence of her or his individual artistic pursuits. The QAC meets around Pittsburgh to brainstorm, get input & motivation, share ideas, techniques and materials. Many share their stories about Queer life in some visual form.

Pittsburgh Gay & Lesbian Community Center provides the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender (GLBT) individuals, their families and supporters in Western Pennsylvania with resources and opportunities to promote visibility, understanding and equality within the LGBT communities and the community-at-large. The GLCC will work toward these goals through education, social support, networking and advocacy.

The show at GalleriE Chiz went well. I confess I didn't know a lot of the people there, but that's good.
I was able to expose my work to a whole new crowd.
Got some interesting feedback. Sold a piece.
Went to check out some of the shows on Penn Ave.
Most Wanted Fine Art was quite crowded.
Ended up at Morris Levy Gallery. LUPEC had a show in honor of Women's history month. The drinks were NOT weak and girly. Sold my drawn goof Edie Sedgewick. And another painting of the wrestling series.

Selling art IS a pretty good feeling. I could get used to this.
